Just designed this for my parent’s Christmas Eve party!
Isn’t it interesting that a pizza restaurant with a blue sign is less enticing than one with a red sign; and a spa with a red sign is less successful as one with a blue sign? Things which affect a person’s behavior without them even knowing it are very interesting.
Newsletters are so often SO ugly. Maybe that’s because they are often designed using a template that was ugly to begin with, but only got uglier as someone tried to cram all their boring information onto a few pages. Anyway, I’m not always happy with everything I produce at my “day job,” because I am only one indian in a tribe of chiefs. My work usually becomes a Frankendesign. But I really liked this page of our newsletter this month:
2012 Light Festival in Ghent, Belgium – Wow! How does this work? Does it take forever? I think I’d create a quilt of lights and just lay it over the building.
Penny street art in Amsterdam by Stefan Sagmeister: “Obsessions make my life worse and my work better.”
Whoa. Imagine the steam that would’ve blown out of Sagmeister’s ears if anyone would’ve tripped and fallen on this during installation. Keeping this together on a public street probably felt like one of those dreams when you are running from a monster but you seem to be knee deep in Nutella … so slow and futile. But it wasn’t futile; it is beautiful.
Plus, I think the design of this piece is gorgeous and effective. Love the type, color choices, texture effect ….
Of course, my handwriting is not legible, so this probably wouldn’t be great for me.
